Martin finished his Electrical Apprenticeship in Kalgoorlie in 1996. He then went on to working in several mines in Western Australia, then travelled through Canada. When returning to Australia, Martin worked rebuilding underground drilling equipment in Western Australia, NSW and Qld before settling in Mt Isa for 2 years, where he setup George Fisher Underground. Martin then travelled to Papua New Guinea, working on the construction of a hydro and diesel power station. In 2000 Martin travelled to Ireland for 18 months working on the Tara mines project, then travelled by motorbike from London to Capetown. Upon returning to Australia, Martin then worked for Western Mining for 2 years.

In 2004 he established Southern Mining Electrical Contractors. His purpose was to establish a business to assist clients throughout the duration of their projects, from engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance services. With a strong focus on technological developments, Martin is continually talking to experts in the energy and mining industries, which has led to the development of new innovations, resulting in benefits for his clients such as reducing operational costs, environmental emissions and improved productivity.

Tony has been in the mining industry since 1978 in various electrical and maintenance roles both in Australia and PNG. Having developed his knowledge in maintenance processes, project & construction management, Tony has previously held senior management roles in Underground Mining, Oil and & Gas, maintenance & construction management, and project controls.

Joining SMEC in 2015 as the Operations Manager with a focus to continue to develop new solutions for the industry by providing quality products and services that ensure maximum up time for our customers to meet their production targets.

With over 25 years of extensive experience as a CFO, General Manager, Financial Director, Non-Executive Director, and Management Consultant in the global mining and resources industry. Proficient in cost management, financial controls, and operating templates, having demonstrated expertise in ASX-listed entities and navigating external audits from top firms. A change management professional, who has successfully guided teams through transitions, expansions, mergers, and reconstructions. Understanding end-to-end business systems and the requirements of leading high-performing teams, these skills lead to significant contributions to ASX listed entities’ growth and development. Currently a Non-Executive Director at Paterson Resources Limited and Business Manager at SMEC Power & Technology, he brings a wealth of leadership gained in the mining and technology. His qualifications, including a Fellow of The Chartered Governance Institute of Australia.

Richard finished his electrical apprenticeship in 1984 through Anglo American in South Africa and went on to complete his diploma in Electrical Engineering as recognised by TAFE WA. Arrived back in Australia in 1985 and contracted to several mines in Western Australia, the last being Golden Grove installing a substation underground. In 1990 joined a company in Perth as Commissioning Engineer for Allen-Bradley PLC’s and within six months became a Sales Engineer for the Mining and Industrial Sector. His role involved marketing and support for protection relays, PLC’s, HMI’s and RFID. Richard became the Product Manager for Mining products and built up a significant customer base throughout the mining industry after many site visits and helped launch many new products into the West Australian market and especially the underground space.

Richard has more than 30 years of experience in Sales, Marketing and Technical Support, as well as a remarkable ability to assist customers with resolution of products and solutions through his strong knowledge of electrical and instrument products. He prides himself on attention to detail and looking after customers across the board. He joined SMEC Power & Technology in early 2024 with a focus on growing their business and getting them recognised throughout the mining and industrial sectors.

Dave has been in the Electrical Industry since 1983. His electrical career began in Ireland, with Elenco Engineering, where Dave started his Electrical Apprenticeship then progressed to a Tradesman, Foreman and eventually Maintenance Manager. In 2011 Dave joined the team at Southern Mining Electrical Contractors and has been with the company since.

Dave has been instrumental in the growth and development of Southern Mining. His role as Projects Area Manager, involves overseeing all our sites and projects in Western Australia, from inception to fruition with the assistance of our excellent projects team.

Some of the recent projects Dave has managed are Mine Site setups including Maxwell’s, Santa, Cock Eyed Bob, Chalice, Big Bell, Starlight and Paddys Flat, Fortnum Mill, Ship Loaders at KGT. Dave has also managed High Voltage Setups for Clients Such as Westgold, Silver lake Resources, Goldfields, CBH and CPC.

Ben started his apprenticeship in Perth in 2006 and over the four years, worked and gained experience in the many different fields the electrical industry offers.

In 2011, Ben started with Southern Mining Electrical Contractors as an underground shift electrician at the Higginsville Gold operations. From there he has gone on to servicing many of our valued customers over various areas including, Underground Operations, Surface Infrastructure, High Voltage Requirements, Communications and Electric Motor needs.

As one of SMEC’s Project Coordinators, Ben’s focus is on delivering your electrical project requirements to a high standard, on time and on budget, no matter how big or small.

With 7 years of experience in the mining industry, Emerson is a young but proven Project Manager at SMEC Power & Technology, where he brings a wide variety of expertise in project execution, team leadership, and operational efficiency. As a testament to his efforts throughout his apprenticeship at SMEC, Emerson was awarded the prestigious Western Australia electrical apprentice of the year four times and was named the National 4th year electrical apprentice of the year. These accolades reflect his exceptional work ethic and dedication to his craft early in his career, which he continues to build upon in his leadership role at SMEC.

With over 30 years of experience in mining electrical works, heavy industry, and commercial projects, Craig is a seasoned professional in project estimating, project management, and cost management. His extensive expertise spans across various sectors, ensuring precise and efficient project execution.
Craig is particularly experienced with underground mining, specializing in high voltage and low voltage distribution and management. He has successfully completed various design, manufacture, and installation packages, including dewatering and ventilation fan installations. Notably, Craig has managed vertical cable design and construct installations, including one remarkable project that reached a depth of 1500 meters with a suspended weight of almost 30 tons, showcasing his ability to handle complex and challenging tasks.
In July 2024, Craig joined SMEC P&T to support the projects teams with estimating, tendering, and project execution, bringing his wealth of experience and expertise to the organization.
Craig holds licenses as an electrical worker and contractor in every state and territory of Australia, underscoring his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. His deep understanding of the industry and hands-on experience make him a valuable asset to any project.

Warren comes from a strong manufacturing and sales background with over 18 years work experiences throughout NZ which has been complimented with several years’ experience in the Underground Electrical Industry, throughout Western Australia. Warren initially joined the SMEC team in 2008 and was employed as an Electrical Supervisor, over a number of sites, in Western Australia. Warren ventured back into the sales arena with Teco WA, in 2014, focusing on the Sales of Electric Motors and Variable Speed Drives and returned to SMEC in 2017 to head up the new Drives and Enclosures Division of SMEC focusing on new enclosure designs suitable for Variable Speeds Drives and Soft Starters in demanding environments.

After two decades working in customer service as a Sales Representative, Jason commenced his Electrical Apprenticeship with Southern Mining Electrical Contractor in 2012 and qualified as an Electrician in 2015. Jason then worked with our projects team on a number of projects in mining and oil and gas, before taking on his current role as the Perth workshop manager. Jason manages a team of over forty trades people and apprentices. His main focus is ensuring that the team delivers quality products to clients through constant review and training of tradesmen and apprentices ensuring our next generation of SMECPT Electricians are able to deliver the quality and efficiency that our clients have grown to expect.

With over 20 years of experience in the electrical switchboard and control panel manufacturing sector, particularly within the underground mining industry, Mark has established a robust career marked by leadership and technical expertise. After obtaining an Associate Diploma of Electronic Engineering in 2000, Mark embarked on a professional journey that would see him supervise and manage electrical manufacturing workshops for notable companies such as Positron, and RCR Power. In these roles, he honed his skills in overseeing complex manufacturing processes and ensuring high standards of quality and safety.
In 2023, Mark joined SMECPT as an Engineering Support specialist for the manufacturing workshop. In this capacity, he provides essential support in electrical design, drafting, tendering, and quoting, contributing to the workshop’s operational efficiency and project success. Throughout his career, Mark has demonstrated a commitment to innovation and excellence, making significant contributions to the field of electrical engineering and the mining industry.
